New Long Length Genesis Too Sweatshirt Jacket
Done! Here is my newest jacket – from my very basic popular Genesis Too pattern design where the lower ribbing is used for the neckline finish. The extra long length is a result of using polar fleece to create yokes in the front and the back, thereby yielding more sweatshirt ‘fabric’ from the 2XL sweatshirt for the length. My technique for this can be seen and heard at this Gallery Link at my website. As you look at the jacket, a few things to notice: angles are the design line. Yarn alone is couched between the fabric sessions, then Fabric Fur is used at the lower edge of each yoke, and to finish the neckline and uppermost trim on the cuffs. Interfaced tan silk creates the center front finish for the jacket’s right front, and a button at the break there is the focal point. The ribbing is applied in a 1:1 ratio and that is why it stands at the neckline.
After stitching in the ditch from the wrong side, the ribbing is trimmed close to the stitching yielding a narrower look to the neckline/center front finish.
I teach in my classes/workshops that once the lower ribbing is stitched, right side of the inside of the ribbing to the WRONG side of the jacket, that then when finishing the outer edge, you can either just stitch down the raw edge (then cover with yarn or trim of some type – Fabric Fur in my case) and have a wider look to the finish – OR you can stitch in the ditch from the wrong side, then trim the excess width of the raw edge of the ribbing up close to the stitching – which is what I’ve done here. Neither way is right or wrong – just different widths accomplished………….
Here is the back yoke. Note the stitching through the larger fabric sections to ‘quilt’ and provide more ‘line’. this jacket features tan and blue silk, a textured wool (darkest) – which is a re-cycled skirt of mine, and a menswear glen plaid in a subtle brown/blue combination.
A close-up of the finished yoke. I really love the color combo of this jacket – and feel it would look very smart either with khakis, jeans, or brown slacks.
