Japanese Kimono Silks and Shibori Pieces

A few years ago, I
was privileged to journey to Japan on a Textile
Tour. One impression that will never leave me is
this sweet little lady (permanently) bent over her
ancient Shibori craft! Note the dots marked on the
fabric at the far left. EACH and EVERY one of those
dots is placed over this nail head on the block of
wood in front her and she then winds thread around
the base of the head, knots, and proceeds to the
next dot. See the roll of fabric lower on her lap
in the left picture, and the roll of narrow fabric
in the right picture that is done??? The fabric is
then dyed, and where the wrapping is located, the
dye does not 'take'. This
is bona fide SHIBORI!

What this then
yields looks like this:

Amazing, absolutely
amazing! The prices at which I'm offering
these is really sinful, considering all the work
involved, but it is in line with what I was able to
obtain these for. This Shibori collection was the
very end of their current supply, so it is doubly
precious. There are also a limited number of
typical Japanese Kimono silks in that department -
but not many. I must admit, I succumbed and
reserved some for my own creative sewing!

For some real creative
fun, and to whip up something to "spice up your
wardrobe" as my Mom says...
take a peek at these wonderful
Italian Wools. In addition to the wonderful
fringing you can make and insert in the edges, think
of :
- Pulling threads, bundling the
remaining threads - by hand OR machine
- Pulling threads and then
couching them on top of the fabric with clear
thread...

Not much yardage remains of these
- so act quickly....................

Here's the creative sewing I've
just completed (well, almost - but then you can't
see inside!)
Zipper
Jacket from Loes Hinse - with Londa's Variations

This is a close up
of the Black Satin Riri Zipper with gold plated
teeth inserted into the front - then I couched this
boucle black yarn on the fabric .

The fabric (more is
on its way, "Strolling Streets Cotton" by the way)
just said "French" to me - which inspired the black
sheer ruffle at the neck. Then - WHOOPS - cut
it out too fast, forgetting Loes' sleeves are always
quite narrow - so I had to enlarge them somehow -
which led to slitting them on the outside up to the
elbow, then adding the ruffle, yarn couching, and
insert of the sheer black. Don't ask how long this
took me - but it was a challenge I encountered, met,
and took control of! This is exactly why I LOVE
creative sewing - I have control! I'm sure most of
you understand. Tsunamis, war, etc. I don't
control - but fabric, I DO!
I will be writing my
Londa's 2 Cents Worth on this
Zipper Jacket pattern from Loes Hinse in the next
day - and then also very quickly Loes'
Sweater Coat. Members of my
Fashion Club will get these
sent to them automatically. Also - members ALWAYS
get 1/2 price on shipping of orders over $25. Top
those benefits off with sample mailings when I get
in a crop of new fabrics...it is a VERY good deal.

RIRI Zippers
are proving to be amazingly popular! I even have a
customer from Japan almost ready to order a bunch!
I've wash-tested them, and they hold up just
super!!! You can shorten them with the Zipper
Nippers I carry by taking off excess teeth. I've
extended the
Introductory Special on these through Feb. 15.
I am designing, writing, and taking pictures of
different creative application methods that I will
email to all who purchase these zippers (past orders
included, I promise!).

The other project
that has me 'involved' lately is adding to my site.
a Londa Original, where I sell my creative
clothing. (Rest assured, that I have received
permission to sell the garment from the designers of
the patterns you might recognize.) Visit my current
collection here:
http://www.alondaoriginal.com
Since
Valentine's Day is fast
approaching, and someone might want to
'treat' you... I invite you to click over and take
a peek. I'm 'into' the real marketing of this site
now that I have 51 products 'up', and all pieces
retrieved from galleries, etc.... SEW..... to entice
you to visit, and to
email your non-sewing friends,
I will reward any purchase made by February 15, 2005
by yourself or a friend (but
you'll need to let me know), with a one time
20% discount on regular items on my site -
in the form of a rebate
check with your order.
*********************************************************************
A Note
of Explanation - many of my specials are
'funded' to you personally with a "Rebate Check
with your Order". I do this because
-
I can't automatically generate
this discount with my site's system
-
It COSTS me - quite
significantly, to apply a credit to your credit
card. Most people don't realize that. My
husband is entertained by how many of you
'save' these checks and then treat yourself all
of the sudden. :)
*********************************************************************
Many thanks to all of
you who wrote with words of encouragement and
concern regarding my hubby's heart attack on New
Years' Eve. I am SEW lucky to have loving,
concerned customers. He is doing GREAT. Our
refrigerator, pantry, digestive systems AND our
grown son living with us are, HOWEVER, in utter
shock at a significantly changed diet! I keep my
personal stash of chocolate though... If how have
any tasty vegetarian or low fat diets - send them my
way!
