"I use a 2 gallon freezer Ziploc bag to store my notions, pattern envelope, pattern pieces, and fabric (if possible).  If the fabric will not fit in the bag, I hang it over a padded hanger (like one of those nice ones from the drycleaner for tablecloths - or by putting an old clean towel on a cardboard tubed pant hanger) pin the Ziploc bag to the hanging fabric."

Londa adds:  it is best not to store fabric enclosed in fabric for a long time - so I vote for the over the hanger idea...
