Lines from Londa June 3, 2011

  June 3, 2011

It seems I'm never home.... but no complaints here!  I'm just tickled pink to have guilds, shops, and shows around the country to visit, teaching my Creative Sewing techniques!

The 1st Annual Londa's Getaway Sewing Retreat was held May 12-15 and did we have a blast!  Approximately 20 of us gathered to fellowship, chat, eat... and oh yea, we sewed til all hours of the night as well!  It was SEW much fun - I've scheduled the retreat for 2012 for April 26-29.  Read all about it HERE.  You can save your place with just $100 down!
The cost for 2012 is just $350 which includes lodging and instruction.  You won't find a better deal....which I knew, but the gals heartily agreed! Space is limited, and the gals from this year all indicated they wanted to return in 2012 - so don't delay!  19 spots are available.  For more details on our fun - check out my Blog HERE.   Many thanks to all of you who bravely participated in this, my first retreat!

Save 25% on Schmetz Needles EVERY DAY at Londa's! If you just check your needle stock when you order, you can likely save a bundle of $ by adding them to your order.  As stated on my website:
"Since it would be ridiculous to weigh every item, I have adopted a chart of shipping costs based upon your order subtotal. You will find that, over time, it balances out. Some shipments cost me more than the customer has paid, some less. If you've paid siginificantly more with your order, I frequently include a rebate with your order. Especially, if your order can safely ship in via regular First Class, I do that and rebate the difference. Rebates are usually in the form of my business check. Sometimes, I catch this before your credit card total 'batches' and I can just reduce the charge. However, to actually issue a CREDIT to your credit card costs me the discount rate AGAIN that I paid to get your money in the first place - that is why I usually write a check instead. My guiding rule is the Golden Rule...I seek to just treat YOU the way I'd like to be treated.  Simple."

Since the great Titanium Needles have been on backorder FOREVER at my regular supplier, I just placed an order with a direct importer.  As I did so, I asked a question that has been bugging me:     "What is the difference between jersey,  stretch, and  'ball point' needles?" I had posed this question to several in the industry - and never got a clear answer - until yesterday!  Here you can read the answer for yourself...
Jersey needle - really same as Universal with a heavier ballpoint to the needle tip than a Universal.
Stretch needle - Also a Ball point - a rounded tip, this needle also has a very pronounced scarf (indentation on the shaft) that makes a bigger loop above the eye of the needle and a has a modified groove to better protect the thread.  Knit fabrics tend to add tension on thread and to pull the loop out so the hook misses and the stitch is skipped, not formed. Sew... since I've been a fan of the Stretch Needle for all  knits - now I know why!  For simplification, I've elected just to NOT carry the Jersey Needle.

I took quite a bit of time refining and adding to the information in the description of each needle on my site.  I hope you find it helpful.  To read more... Check out my summary of needle and thread information HERE.

Hints for Great Top Stitching has just been added to my Free Info catalog of information.  Check it out HERE.  You'll read about Equipment, Technique, and design considerations.
I had to add some info on the Double Eye Needles.  These new wonders are always asked for as I travel to do the sewing expos!   Read more info direct from Schmetz HERE.

New Kai Scissors are available!  Need a wedding gift?  I think a good pair of SCISSORS is a great one.  Check out these new Kitchen Shears!  They come apart for thorough cleaning!

Also new from Kai:  Serrated Edges on select Kai Scissors.  This is another area of great interest to me.  I used to LOVE my Gingher G-8Z serrated edge scissors - so I kept looking for more serrated edge scissors.  i know several national sewing expert highly recommend serrated edges, so I asked my Scissors Expert about it.  I really queried him - as you can read for yourself.
Find all of that valuable information gathered HERE.
So - even though he doesn't feel it adds much to the types of fabrics home sewers utilize, I've gone ahead and made an entire new department of Serrated Edge Scissors.  Find  all serrated scissors and shears I carry gathered HERE.

Summer is a great time to EXPLORE techniques...so I'm passing along additional savings to the FIRST 10 PEOPLE who order Paintsticks.  Anything from THIS DEPARTMENT! Paintsticks are 15% off every day at my site, but until June 29, I can offer an ADDITIONAL 5% discount!!!

And Finally.... I am an AVID reader!  It's summer, and I always LOVED to read, especially during the summer.  Now, I do that on my IPAd and my Kindle as I travel...but I want to start sharing in a WISDOM section to each email.  As with everything - take it or leave it:  I just felt led to share...

1.  You are what you EAT!  More and more reading I've been doing convinces me of this!  Read and consider this healthy information that WILL lead to natural, healthy weight loss - AND rid your body of some of the AWFUL chemicals so prevalent in our food sources today!  Click HERE.

2.  I don't think anything short of the Bible itself (ala studies with Beth Moore at my church), has influenced my thinking more than my current study of HEAVEN by Randy Alcorn.  Click HERE to read more about Randy, this book, and also his novels.   I just finished his novel DEADLINE,and am now reading Safely Home.  VERY good, and so revealing!
Also - I can't highly enough recommend the wonderful little book "Heaven is For Real"  by Todd Burpo.  Click here for an interview with this little boy and his Dad.  It is a  yellow and orange little book - which you can find for $13.49 at Walmart.  It is an amazing, wonderful, quick, meaningful revelation about the future all of us have to look forward to after death if we believe in Jesus as our Saviour.   Let me know what you think!  Email me any time.  And... let me know what YOU are loving to read!  I try to keep sharing about my reading on my Blog.  Check it out HERE.

And one last thought... I just moved my dear Mommy once again in the nursing home.  This time - even though it is to a room with 2 other dear women, I  had to whittle down her clothing to fit into 2 feet of closet rod space.  I can't help but remember all the time, effort, and money she spent all those years on her wardrobe.  In many ways, it is a blessing the Alzheimer's keeps her from realizing it all.  The household things are all gone now as well, all but the few things in Daddy's little 2 room apartment.  It haunts me as I shop. I find myself questioning every purchase.  I  guess I'm just sharing that the lessons I'm learning is that is isn't about the STUFF - but rather the experiences, and most of all - the relationships.     I so value the relationships I've been blessed to make in my work.  AND, that my business is providing knowledge and the necessities for enjoying the experience of creating clothing for ourselves, loved ones, and...for quilters among you, for beds and walls! My heart cries for the women in tornado-ravaged towns...    It is just that as we set our goals, decide what to do with each day - that nothing matters more than our God in whom we have faith and in the people we meet every day.

Blessed to be part of your hobby,

Londa
