Lazy Summer Day Creativity Suggestion... sit and create Yo-Yo's! I know - I know...but when I saw these absolutely ADORABLE hangings with yo-yo's used in SUCH a creative way - even I think I'll get busy and make some yo-yo's. These adorable patterns are by Marcia Layton from Florida. I have them all for sale right now at my website - and will be taking orders from now through July 2 for a Special Order I will place with Marcia. Normally $12, the price through July 2 is just $11.00.
Yo-Yo's were the first of my $-Saving Clover Combos! All 5 of the ROUND Quick Yo-Yo Makers can be had at my site for $26.73 rather than $31.45. And...if you must have all 15 of the Yo-Yo Makers (round, oval, butterfly, flower...), you can save big! $81.72 rather than $102.15!!!
Marcia was recently featured on the Clover-USA blog and shared this:
"One
of the challenges I set for myself once I started the series of yo-yo
houses was to make the borders different on each of the quilts.
“Patriot’s Corner” has jumbo circle yo-yos sewn into the outside edge of
the quilt with smaller yo-yos sewn on top. It was a fun way to get the
look of the red, white and blue bunting that makes me think of the 4th
of July.
I wasn’t always obsessed with yo-yos. I started my quilting career
back in the late 1990s by making little quilts with children’s
hand prints. I was a preschool teacher at the time and had plenty of
little handprints to play with. I started experimenting and dreaming
about all the different things I could make from the shape of a hand and
incorporating them into quilts to auction off for the school. I can
honestly say I became totally obsessed with handprints!
About five years ago I started working in a quilt shop where I was
surrounded by beautiful fabric every day and introduced to all sorts of
new quilting tools. One tool that piqued my interest was the Clover Quick Yo-Yo Makers,
especially the heart-shaped one. I thought the little hearts would be
cute on clothing so I made a few. They were fun to make, so I made a few
more.
Then I started to play with the circle-shaped yo-yo makers and
quickly became addicted to yo-yo making. Soon I had a sizeable
collection of yo-yos with no real purpose in mind. They were fun to sort
and look at but I really didn’t know what I was going to do with them.
Then I had an idea. I had made some yo-yos that were really bright and
all the colors of the rainbow … they looked like candy. I decided then
that I would make a little gingerbread house scene and cover it with
yo-yo candies. “Lollipop Lane” was my first yo-yo quilt and became my
first pattern. The yo-yo circle shapes just seem to add a whole new
dimension to the look of traditional appliqué and I was totally enamored
of them. So many people have yo-yo stories to tell. For some, making yo-yo's the traditional way was their first experience with sewing, fondly remembered. For others, it was a chore they don't care to repeat. I like to think the new yo-yo makers and my little quilts will create some pleasant memories for a new generation of quilters just as they have for me! "
FINALLY.... It's time to start the chatter regarding It's Sew Easy - new PBS Sewing Show !! One of several recent exciting 'happenings' in my 'professional career in the sewing business' lately was an invitation to be a guest designer on this new show! Sew......back in March, I flew off to Cleveland where I had a very interesting experience of taping a creative segment for this great new sewing show! What a treat to have your makeup done by an EXPERT! AND - 'Suede' from the5th season of Project Runway was one of the participants! Check out my BLOG HERE for more photos and stories! Details about the show - and how YOU CAN HELP in getting it to show on YOUR local PBS station can be found HERE.

Sew Expo - Indianapolis, IN It's wonderful, absolutely WONDERFUL when you can travel just a couple hours and participate in a GREAT Sewing Expo. If you're Anywhere Indianapolis, IN August 25-26-27, 2011, you just have to take it in! I'm excited because in addition to my normal lecture/demo classes, I get to teach a 4 hour hands-on class on Embellishments. This is the same class I've been honored to have chosen to offer at the infamous Houston Quilt Festival in late Oct/early Nov.! The great gals of the Indi American Sewing Guild have pulled this together - and this is year #2 for them. Support this great regional show - you'll be glad you did! Read more about it HERE, and if you have ANY questions, just holler!
TOPS - Super Fashion for Summer... many of you probably already know about Style Arc patterns from Australia...but I didn't until recently. My first order (3 top patterns!) just arrived. Now to find time to stitch them up. Once I do so, be assured, I'll let you know about my experience. Anyway, look at this cinch of a simple idea for changing the look of a basic cowl Top! The idea is simple - and you sure don't need this specific pattern to clip/pin it around as shown for different looks!
Style Arc even has a copy of that amazingly attractive dress of Pippa's for sister Kate's Royal Wedding!
Speaking of great Tops.... I'm ALWAYS asked about my flattering Tank Top that I wear under my sweatshirt jackets at the sewing expos. It is the Margarita Top - which has flattering curved princess seams on the front, and wide enough straps to easily cover those pesky bra straps. I use my 'clear elastic slightly tugged' technique as you can read all about at the Free Info document HERE. However, I've also put together a great COMBO of the pattern, clear elastic, 4.0/75 Twin Stretch Needles, and my Londa's 2 Cents Worth on this great top. Save money right now on this great combo... My Family Favorite Summer Dessert is called 3-5's. I'm sure I've shared it before - but it is worthy of repeating. Make it up and stick it your freezer. then pull it out the minute some visitors come to call. You may even need to zap it in the Microwave to get it soft enough to serve - but It's SO good! Even better.... SO EZ!!! It's simply 3 each of 5 ingredients: 3 lemons 3 oranges - half and squeeze the pulp and juice from the oranges and lemons. Put all in a bowl. 3 bananas - mash and add to the bowl 3 cups of water here I change the '3' business a bit... 1 can Crushed Pineapple - just add it in. 1 cup of Sugar - mix it all up. Freeze til set, then if you want a fluffy consistency, beat it as you would any 'ice' dessert. (I usually forget and don't do this step). Thaw a bit as shared above to serve. YUM, YUM, YUM!!!
Speaking of Family.. please allow me to share about my big brother. At just 62, he has gone to be with Jesus. Monday June 6 - I taped my Video Email - concluding by sharing personally about the wonderful new insight I've been reading about Heaven. How timely...God obviously had all this planned. A phone call around noon summoning me to southern Illinois came so that I would be able to see him one more time on this earth. It is still a raw loss. Loss for me - gain for him. I'm convinced that he is so enjoying the presence of Jesus and all who have gone before, that even if he could - he would not come back to this earth. Nonetheless - selfishly, we miss him. He is the first on my side of the immediate family to walk through the door to Jesus. My parents are 88 - Mom with Alzheimers and Daddy is struggling with it all. My heart goes out to all of you who have lost loved ones in a new way. Each and every day is so precious! My big brother was an amazing photographer. Mom was/is an artist. My little sister makes amazing quilts. I guess some creativity has been passed on in our souls. If you care to - read about my big brother here at my Blog. But, DO please take a moment to click HERE to see his amazing photography. He would be honored, as I will be for you to just take a peek to appreciate his talents. Perhaps not now - in the Intermediate Heaven, but ultimately back here on the New Earth in the New Heaven, Roger will enjoy celestial photography assignments. Forgive me - I just had to share. Enjoy the wonderful Summer Days. ENJOY your family! Take time for the important stuff of life! Travel safely....
With very tight Sewing Hugs, Londa
