Lines from Londa

7-2-2009

I'm home between shows ... and busy on maintaining my website this morning.  This afternoon, think I'll actually get to SEW!  Need to make another Margarita Tank Top to replace the one I must have lost in a hotel room.  Does that just aggravate you like it does me when that happens!? AND - want to whip up a Tee Pee Bag from screening for a Bug Bag for #1 Grandson too.

I just added and fixed many of the Free Info pages on my site.  Here are the new ones... Many of which would make GREAT gifts!  Ya know - once July 4 is past, you can count on seeing Christmas stuff creeping into the stores, which means we creative souls should start our extra special gift making journeys!

  • PaintStiks:  Top Tips for Great Results:  better rubbing tips, preparing paintstiks....

  • Easy Paintstik Placemats:  a wonderful project to get you going with Paintstiks

AND, DID you know - you SAVE 15% average when you purchase Paintstiks from my site?  Summer would be a fun time to play with them - and how about making some artsy placemats while you're at it?

  • Londa's Memory Stole - created for my daughter as a bride - a wonderful 'stole' to create from special fabrics...also useable as a table runner
  • Chenille Pillow - if you've never tried chenille, give this a try - great for the home AND as gifts!
  • Tee Pee Bag - made famous by Mary Lou Nall, this is a fun project from fabric, or even screening as a 'Bug House'.

My THREADS Magazine Issue 144 - September arrived yesterday - which always sidetracks me from my 'to do' list... and you should know that right here at my site, I offer all the following wonderful new products!

And by the way - those Sprial Eye Needles advertised on Page 9 ARE great!  I saw them and tried them at a show.  And, on page 3 - I can highly endorse High Fashion Fabrics in Houston.  I kinda 'lost it' while shopping there last year while at the Houston Quilt Market & Festival.   If you travel to Houston - be sure to take it in!

Here is a little Fabric/Textile Lesson for you...on KNITS

Knits are basically all either Single Knits or Double knits.  Single knits are knitted on machines with 1 set of needles, and double knits are knitted on machines with 2 sets of needles.

Single Knits:  a JERSEY is a stockinette stitch - which looks different on both sides.  Most T-shirt knits are Jersey.  If you were knitting, you would be knitting one row, pearling one row.  If you pull this fabric on the crossgrain, it will curl to the right side.  The side with the vertical-looking 'stripes' is the 'right' side, but often you see the 'wrong' horizontal effect side now used as the right side.  Which side is 'right' is up to the designer...

Double Knits:  Look the same on both sides.  An INTERLOCK knit is heavier, firmer than jersey.  As T-shirts, these are higher quality, 'beefier' and usually more expensive.  A Rib knit (Slinky knit is an example) has ribs - and stretches alot on the crossgrain.

I can't stitch on knits without my Clear Elastic on all neckline and sleeveless edges, and my Stretch Fusible Tape in all hems.  Combined with the Twin Stretch 4.0/75 Double Needle - you get professional results - on your sewing machine.  No - I don't think you need a cover hem serger or machine.  Just try my techniques as given in the Free Info Tab - or click HERE.

Please remember - I can ship orders received between now and next Thursday, July 9 - but then I'm off to the American Sewing Guild Conference in Albuquerque to teach and sell AND a VACATION after that!  All orders received between July 10 and 26 will be shipped just as soon as possible after my return.  Look for a FREE GIFT with your order to thank you for your patience!

I'm anxiously awaiting my new Refined Embellishments for Creative Sewing DVD due July 14.  Perhaps I can persuade my production engineer, Jeff, to ship the pre-ordered ones in my absence...we'll see.  Thanks again to those of you who pre-ordered this great new DVD.  I appreciate your confidence!

Oh - and if you purchased my new Ultimate Creative Sweatshirt Jacket VERSION 2 DVD in Cincinnati - I owe you a replacement disc.  We found a BIG mistake in the initial shipment!  Please email me your name, mailing address, and the coupon code from the insert inside the DVD to verify your purchase.  Those will be shipped upon my return as well.

Off to SEW!!!!
