 Lines from Londa

Spring is still trying to make a firm appearance around here in central Illinois...though that might just be a good thing that ground is too cold for my garden/flower beds to compete for my limited time...remember, I still have that wedding dress and my dress to finish!

I'm SEW grateful, though, to be working from my home.  It's amazing to me - but this is the first year I took notice of the tree across the street - some type of Oak tree.  It has kept its leaves until now - when, I suppose, the buds for new leaves are forcing the old leaves that have hung on all winter to finally float to the ground.  Now - I ask you - HOW did I miss that for the last 20 years??? Right across the street and out my bedroom window????  TOOO busy - that's what!

Anyway...I try my best to enjoy every flowering tree - like those above that are also on the street where I live.  It was fun to practice counting and to come to 21 purple tulip trees with my #1 grandson going up a main thoroughfare to his preschool from our home.

FREE INFORMATION PATTERNS & CREATIVE INSPIRATION

  • I'm always browsing sewing sites for good info - and found a wonderful tutorial about threads at the YLI website.  Go to:  www.ylicorp.com and then on the left side - under Education - click on the Thread of Truth Brochure.   'S' Twist, 'Z' Twist, sizing, thread weight TEX system, and even needle info abounds here.  Enjoy...and learn for example:  the Higher the number - the finer the thread...

Did you KNOW?  I am happy to order any thread by the box for you - and at 20% savings.  Just email me with the manufacturer and color - and I'll see if I can get it for you.

  • My files from the retail shop days abound with valuable goodies.  If you need a quick wrap for a prom dress, wedding attire - click on the links below for my

  • Some of the best fun as I travel to teach and do shows is getting great ideas & inspiration from customers!  Check out these photos - and then click over to my BLOG  or Travel-Log to read more about them...

  • At the same show - my newest jacket proved to be quite an attention getter...

Working on my  new Refined Embellishments for Creative Clothing class...(and SOON to be a NEW DVD I will be selling!) , I came up with the idea of 'altering' the Edge Perfect Blade so that it didn't cut holes as closely.  Once I tried successfully to snip off every 2 of the blade points and tested it - I attacked the back angled fitting slash on my WORTHY pattern with 2 rows of 'holes', and then criss-crossed decorative yarn through them.  And...Yep - that is the top of jeans nicely creating the collar to frame the face!

 BRAND NEW and ON SALE!!!

  • Clover has done it again!!!!  Their Sweetheart Rose Maker is amazing....surely harkens back to ancient oriental origami.  It is actually 2 laminated strips with funny folds that you place your fabric inbetween.  Then...you fold and stitch the seam allowances together, remove the template, and the roll it up using the 'high tech' equipment (a bobby pin which is included) to transform this twisted mess into the loveliest roses!!! I've even placed a how-to video on at the products at my site.  BUT, but, but...be sure to come back to MY site to place your order for 20% savings on these two BRAND NEW items!

Save 20% on Sweetheart Rose Makers and Bow Makers through Sunday, April 26.

Also new - the Bow Makers... I see LOTS of fun for spring clothing, accessories and more.

FREE with your order of $35 or more - while supply lasts

These Spring rains will bring REAL flowers - and one that always amazes me is the Moon Flower I have in my garden.  It sows itself each year from these seed pods that form in the fall - and I collected them with plans to offer them as a THANK YOU for your order.  I have a limited amount of pods - so they are waiting to get stuck in with your order for $35 or more - as long as my supply lasts.  Here's a picture of this humongous white Morning Glory flower that unfurls in all its glory at night!  Just google for 'Moon Flower' to learn more...I did, and found I should be sowing the seeds where it can climb.  I'll do that myself - when the ground finally warms up!

GIRLS...GIRLS...GIRLS

Penny Rambacher from my charity mission - Miracles In Action - sent me the most interesting email and links to a program called The Girl Effect.  Helpoing girls - can help the world.  Think about these facts as we approach Mother's Day - and celebrating all that we are as females...

  1. 1 girl in 7 in developing countries marries before age 15.
  2. A survey in India found that girls who married before age 18 were twice as likely to report being beaten, slapped, or threatened by their husbands as were girls who married later.
  3. Medical complications fom pregnancy are the leading cause of death among girls ages 15 to 19 worldwide  Compared with women ages 20 to 24, girls ages 10 to 14 are five times more likely to die from childbirth, and girls 15 to 19 are up to twice as likely, worldwide.
  4. Approximately one-quarter of girls in developing countries are not in school.
  5. When a girl in the developing world receives seven or more years of educatgion, she marries four years later and has 2.2 fewer children.

Contributing to Penny's program http://www.miraclesinaction.org to help poor families to help themselves by building schools and teaching vocational trades - including sewing - is a real privilege.  I do this with a tithe in Christian love on all of my sweatshirt jacket patterns and books.  After I get finished with the lovely task of stitching (and praying over each stitch as I go) my daughters' wedding gown (and my dress) - I've got exciting plans for TWO new DVD's and another pattern to be named 'Chosen'.    Meanwhile... my fingers are delighting in stitching on silk taffeta and fine lace and chiffon.  Follow along at my Blog with my escapades  - including the realization that I either lost or never cut the left center back piece for my dress - and no, no more fabric is available! Ahhh....challenges, challenges - 'creative opportunities'!

Happy Sewing and Enjoy the Spring!
